I received my Masters degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Loughborough University in 2019, having completed a series of placements throughout. I undertook a summer and six-month placement at GSK improving the robustness and functionality of their Respiratory product range. In my final summer break, I completed a one-month internship in Beijing, China, with NIU Technology – a world leader in smart, electric two-wheeled vehicles. This experience enabled me to travel internationally alone and challenged my ability to adapt in unfamiliar environments, developing my cross-cultural competence.

I have been fortunate to be a part of a structured training program for both The Royal Academy of Engineering: Engineering Leaders Scholarship and 3M’s Graduate Training program which provided practical experience and varied insight into the variety of 3M plants.

Since graduating, I have worked in a number of roles at 3M. The first of these saw me supporting the production and packaging of medical inhalation devices as a Process Engineer. I then relocated to the 3M site in the North East as a Process Engineer for respirator production during the Covid-19 Pandemic. In this role I lead projects that delivered significant stability improvements to ensure the critical supply of 9300+ Series respirators globally.

I have since transitioned into a role that focuses on Industry 4.0 and Digitalisation across the factory, aligning production areas to achieve agreed output targets using data and data systems. I am responsible for leading Data Strategy execution, delivering integrated digital initiatives and coordinating resource to ensure current and future projects follow a standardised deployment. I am involved in staff development within my own team, conducting appraisals and discussing development plans and opportunities.

My interaction with technology includes my daily leadership of IT-OT convergence projects, enabling accurate real-time reporting of production data.

I am responsible for managing and improving the site’s industrial network infrastructure, determining regulations for data traffic.

I manage data governance of the technology systems we implement to ensure the protection of Intellectual Property and conformance with industry standards.

And as part of my role as a Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer I supervise and coach a Graduate Digital Controls Engineer and identify skill development opportunities to support digital initiatives for support functions across site.
