Asélle Ibraimova has over a decade’s experience advising on technology contracts and data protection rules in the EU and the UK. In reflection of her talent, she was recently promoted to Counsel in the Global Corporate Group of the global law firm Reed Smith.

Asélle previously worked in-house in the BBC’s data protection team and at a medical devices software company where she was responsible for negotiating contracts related to the digitisation of medical records, including with the NHS. These in-house roles have given Asélle a unique understanding of how businesses operate; the demands placed on in-house lawyers, and how external counsel can best serve their clients.

She has a unique background, which has shaped her approach to law. Asélle is originally from Kyrgyzstan and came to the UK in 2006. She completed her BA at the American University in Central Asia and her master’s in the UK. She then obtained her doctorate in law from the University of Bern, in Switzerland. Asélle supported herself by working full-time while obtaining her legal education, eventually qualifying as an English solicitor in 2012. She has an extraordinary flare for entrepreneurship and a tremendous capacity for hard work, having also started a translation company.

Upon joining Reed Smith in 2021, she hit the ground running, forging strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Asélle’s clients attest that she is highly attuned to their needs, responsive, and has strong technical skills that enable her to deliver excellent client service
