It was formed as a Business Membership Organization (BMO) in 1996 and was jointly conceived by the promoters of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Private Sector and Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
NASME is a member of the Federal Government of Nigeria MSME Council. It is also one of the members of the Organized Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN) and is recognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a leading voice of Nano, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NMSME). As a Business Membership Organization (BMO), it is affiliated to the World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME).
The women wing of NASME has a core mandate of empowering women through mentoring, access to funding for women enterprises, training, networking members in all states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The women wing of NASME will be celebrating the 2023 International Women’s Day with the Theme “Digital All: Innovation and Technology For Gender Equality” which is aimed at drawing attention to the impact of the digital gender gap on the widening economic and social inequalities. The event will also spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in the digital space and addressing online and ICT facilitated gender based violence.
