Gem Taylor-Jones

I grew up in a small village in North Wales before venturing to Leeds University to study a BSc in Mathematics.

During my time at Leeds, I undertook a placement year at Lloyds of London as an Actuarial Intern which is where my love for data blossomed.

I applied for the O2 Telefonica Graduate scheme as a Data Analyst and joined the Business directorate in September 2017, and have since offboarded into a permanent role. At O2, I work with data from the customer base to provide B2B aggregated and anonymised insights. I came into the role having only knowing VBA (Visual Basic Applications) from my internship, but quickly developed other coding skills in SQL and Python. I have since been using my skills to develop viable product for our retail clients.

I am an active member of the Women’s Network at O2, and enjoy attending conferences hosted by Women in Data. As a woman who has studied in STEM, I felt like I had a responsibility to impart my experiences to other women, so I enrolled onto GirlsTalkLondon’s Step into STEM mentoring programme.
