Grace Lin | Associate Software engineer | Discover Financial Services

 

Grace is a motivated young professional who recently graduated from the University of Surrey with a 1st class Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. During her studies, she completed an industrial placement as a Technology Intern at Vodafone, before joining Discover Financial Services on their summer internship program. She then returned to university to write her dissertation on AI and NLP techniques. Since graduating, she has joined Discover Financial Services as an Associate Software Engineer; where she is working on a modernisation project on back-end systems. She is an adept and involved member of the team, and is constantly improving and absorbing technical knowledge.

Grace is a big advocate for advancing women in STEM, as well as improving social mobility. As a second-generation Chinese immigrant, she is passionate about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and is always identifying opportunities to improve access for all. She is a member of Discover’s EMEA Women in Tech leadership committee who work to increase the visibility of women in the business, help advance their careers, and maintain their spaces in the EMEA region.

Outside of work, she has been an instructor and ambassador for Code First Girls since 2018 and is a proud Sutton Trust alumnus. She has also volunteered with School Home Support to encourage children to continue their education.

Grace continues to contribute to her networks and communities, whilst progressing her career in technology, and looks forward to what the future holds.
