Jade Carino

I have been working as a Software Developer apprentice at IBM in the UK Labs since May 2020.

Prior to starting at IBM, I had no technical experience or knowledge. After leaving sixth form, I was meant to go to university to study Maths but I declined my place as I knew university wasn’t the right route for me. After working full-time in recruitment sourcing for technical roles, I became fascinated with technology and I thought that my skills would be a great match for working in software development, so I started applying for apprenticeships.

I am currently in my last month of the Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship pathway. Within the UK Labs, I am part of the CICS TS department and have been part of two teams so far: I was firstly in CICS Security, where I developed automated test suites for the z/OS Healthchecker, and now I am part of the development team for Galasa, which is a Strategic Open Source project, and I am a full-stack developer. I am also involved in patenting and I am an advocate for apprenticeships having panelled at many events for young people.
