Laura-Ann Hanson

I’m Laura-Ann (also called LA), a Director at PwC. I lead technology enabled business transformations which help insurance companies to solve a variety of important problems that they face in an ever changing and complex industry. I am a committed, passionate and whole-hearted leader whose aim is to create an industry which sees people at the heart of technology and change. I bring together people with different capabilities to structure high performing teams, and my aim is to build a strong female network in technology.

I started my career working as a Business Analyst for a software vendor implementing insurance policy administration software. I joined PwC USA in 2012 as a technology consultant and then PwC UK in 2014 on a strategic secondment. I loved working in the UK so much that I joined the UK firm permanently after my secondment ended. During this time, I have moved from BA to Delivery Manager to Programme Director based on my experience leading technology transformations from strategy to delivery to hypercare. One of my (favourite) projects won the Management Consultancies Association (MCA) Award for Digital and Technology.

I have spent the past 15+ years delivering customer-focused technology transformations. My expertise is a combination of recognising the customers’ needs, understanding front-end to back-end technology systems, experience in implementing agile methodologies and insurance product knowledge to ensure successful transformations. “The highest compliment I can pay Laura-Ann is that she has been essentially a co-creator of a product and user experience proposition that we believe to be extremely innovative and market-changing.” Chief Strategy Officer

I have made it my personal mission to develop the technology careers of female team members. “It was wonderful to work with a leader who initiates open and honest coaching conversations. LA has been a mentor and role model to me and has encouraged me to contribute and use the space I’m given in meetings to express my opinion and to add value.” PwC Senior Associate

My goal is to build an inclusive community where problems are shared openly and without judgement or shame and where support can be provided. I am dedicated to the wellbeing and resilience of people and I co-host face to face workshops with women across industries and backgrounds on topics including self esteem, confidence and avoiding burnout. I also support colleagues with young families. I suffered from a difficult case of postpartum depression after the birth of my son. Sharing my story requires a deep vulnerability to speak openly about mental health and coping mechanisms so that others feel that they are not alone. “As a new parent, LA has been a huge support in my career progression and through the challenges of co-parenting with an infant at home whilst starting a new project role and travelling to the client site. She sees the bigger picture of how a person’s wellbeing impacts the end delivery to the client: a happy and supported team member is committed to delivery more so than others.” PwC Manager
