WeAreTechWomen, the technology arm of WeAreTheCity, hosted its first-ever Level Up Summit for female technologists at Queen Elizabeth II Centre, situated in the heart of Westminster, London.

The summit, proudly sponsored and supported by EY, saw over 400 attendees from across the technology sector and a range of companies including Sky, Visa, Barclays, Merkle, Bank of America, BT Group, Funding Circle, Natwest, Fidelity and many more.

The summit was aimed at women in the tech sector who were looking to broaden their technology horizons, learn new skills and build their technology networks.

Facilitator Julia Streets, CEO, Streets Consulting, kicked off the day and welcomed all the delegates. The morning began with a number of keynotes from speakers such as Dame Caroline Dinenage DBE MP, Former Minister of State for Digital and Culture; Catriona Campbell, UK&I Client Technology and Innovation Officer, EY; Michelle Garrigan, Senior Vice President, EMEA Cyber Threat Intelligence Lead, Bank of America Europe; and Dr Heather Melville OBE CCMI, Senior Managing Director, Teneo People Advisory.

During the lunch break, delegates were treated to refreshment and had the chance to network with sponsors, hear from our career coaches, get advice from our social media experts, and have their professional headshots taken. Towards the end of lunch, our wellness expert, Ali Roff-Farrar, was on hand to provide our attendees with a relaxting meditation session.

Across the day, attendees enjoyed listening to a number of high-profile speakers in our main auditorium, including Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, Founder, STEMettes, Speaker, Presenter and Author; Russ Shaw CBE, Founder, Tech London Advocates and Global Tech Advocates; Roni Savage, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist & SILC; and Helen Tupper, Co-Founder and CEO, Amazing If, plus many more.

We also had two other stages at the summit: Career Bites, powered by Sky, where delegates learned how to tackle imposter syndrome, harness their resilience, and develop public speaking skills; and our EY Tech Innovation Lounge which covered more technical topics, such as Data Analytics and the Metaverse.

During sessions, attendees were invited to put their questions to speakers and participate in polls via the Slido app. Time was built into the day for lively facilitated table discussions, ‘Table Topics’, where delegates were able to share their thoughts on various themes from the keynotes, such as taking down the barriers for women in tech, allyship, and encouraging more women and girls into technology.
