When I left school at 15, I never had it in my mind to have a career in technology as I always wanted to go into a profession helping people.

But here I find myself heading up the Modern Work Programmes delivery team at Agilisys delivering Microsoft technology solutions to public sector clients and loving it! I guess this is because I can help them to create and deploy technology solutions to enable them to deliver critical services to their citizens and patients. It enables front line workers, such as nurses, police officers and associated back-office staff to do their jobs to the best of their ability using the latest technology available which I am immensely passionate about.

My first experience of technology was working in an accounts department where I discovered I had knack at organising upgrades to financial systems and providing training. This initially sparked my interest in technology, that it supports and helps people to do their job faster and make their job easier. My first IT job was working for a European transport, logistics, warehousing company working as a 1st line support desk person. I got to know the software that was used and got to know it that well I was asked to run training courses in the UK and in Europe and this further led on to a career within the same company as a Business Analyst, then as a Test Manager and then took on a Project Manager role. I got a buzz over making something work better, faster by automating manual processes through IT software. This was a challenging environment as I was often the only women in the room or even the site sometimes working in this sector trying to fulfil a role which was traditionally dominated by men.

After another Software Project Management role, I took a move to a company called Computacenter where I honed my Project Management skills and worked up the ranks to a Programme Manager role specialising and leading teams to deliver large scale End User Computing Transformation Programmes. I gained an enormous amount of pleasure seeing the results of lots of planning activities materialise into something that improves an individual’s working environment and daily life.

I later joined an engineering company as a Global Programme Manager and became the interim IT Director. The was my first major leadership role and I used all my skills in finance, organisational, communication, people management and commercial management skills that I had built up over the years to be successful in that role. This led on to further leadership roles as Head of Projects at SCC and now within Agilisys where I am back to where my passion lies managing a team who deliver Modern Work solutions to our public sector clients especially now where they need it most.
