Marija Smirnova

Marija is the head of Client Assets Engineering in London, where she manages a team of developers overseeing key business-impacting projects, develops senior stakeholder relationships and provides technical and professional development opportunities for her people.

In addition, Marija is also currently undertaking a firm-sponsored part-time MBA and Chartered Manager Institute (CMI) Level 7 qualification in Strategic Management and Leadership at the University of Exeter. In this role, Marija is leading a high-profile legacy system elimination project, where she deploys her technical and functional expertise and switches between low level technical detail and a larger scale strategic thinking.

Marija joined the Client Assets Engineering team as a software engineer. A short time after, she took on more responsibilities to progress to team lead and then subsequently to manager.

Prior to this, Marija was a software developer in FX Sales and Trading Engineering team. She joined Goldman Sachs with this team as a new graduate in 2008 after completing a Computer Science with Business Management degree at Birmingham University.

Marija is invested in engaging and recruiting diverse talent at all levels to pursue technical careers. She is a member of the Women in Engineering network and a captain of the Goldman Sachs Birmingham University recruiting team.
