Nina Ma

Nina joined PwC’s Birmingham office as a Technology Risk graduate in September 2018 after finishing her degree in psychology at the University of Birmingham.

She was motivated to pursue a career in the technology sector after working part-time as an IT Service Desk Support Assistant and organising the Women in Tech Conference as part of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) society, both at the University. During her first year with PwC, she has been involved in a variety of engagements with a wide range of clients across different industries and sectors, e.g. banking, utilities and higher education. Following support on reviews on Change Management, Testing Capability and Business Readiness she is currently working on a Digital Transformation Programme where she takes on the role of PMO. She has been responsible for Project Plans, Programme Governance, Risk Management, Change Management, Communications, and many other aspects of the Programme.

Nina has always been keen to encourage and support other women within the industry. She is the Women in STEM lead in the Midlands and an active member of the national comms team of the Gender Balance Network (GBN) at PwC. She regularly contributes materials to the monthly newsletter where most recently, she wrote a report on the Women in Tech Risk Lean In event to celebrate the success and inspire other teams to develop tangible ways to encourage Women in Tech. Whenever there are the opportunities, she volunteers at school and recruitment events related to Women in Tech. She has been a panellist at both Females of the Future and Digital Insight Week events to give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds an opportunity to gain access to professional services. She also let students on the Women in Tech programme at PwC shadow her and shares her insights and experience with them. Furthermore, she supported Tech Trek, Dragon’s Den Schools Day, Teach First Work Place Visit, STEM Women careers fair and various other Women in Tech and social mobility events. Currently, she is organising a series of bi-monthly Women in Tech Lunch & Learns with colleagues in the Birmingham office starting in September.

Nina is heavily involved in the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) activities within PwC. She sits on the Midlands’ D&I Council committee and is one of the Midlands’ People Networks Coordinators. She is responsible for affairs related to the 17 People Networks in the Midlands. She has organised various cultural events on behalf of the International Working Group (IWG) which aims to promote intercultural understanding and provide support for the personal and professional development of individuals. She has successfully put on engaging educational sessions on Chinese New Year, Effective Communication as well as Eid al-Adha celebration, which she collaborated on with the Muslim Network at PwC. She also launched the Language Buddy Network in the Birmingham Office to support those who are learning foreign languages and encourage those who wish to start doing this. She also successfully put on a People Network Roadshow at the Midlands’ AGM attended by more than 500 to promote the D&I agenda and attract more people into the activities. At the moment, she is organising various activities for the PwC Everyday Inclusion launch in the Birmingham office during the National Inclusion week. Furthermore, Nina is involved in training interns and apprentices. She has delivered sessions on Alteryx and Agile Project Management. She is keen to coach and mentor junior member of staff and help them with their joining experience at PwC.
