I took a non-conventional route into working in Technology, having studied History at University, and always taken an interest in languages. My first job out of university was with an educational charity, working in Recruitment and Programme Delivery, then later within the Technology Project Management Office. In this role I completed a Project Management qualification, covering Agile and Hybrid software delivery. I then moved onto a large Salesforce transformation programme for the organisation, working across Business Design, Solution Design, Build, Test and Change Management. This programme interested me more than any work I had done to date, and I knew I wanted to continue in a career in Tech Delivery. This led me to reach out to Baringa to enquire about any careers within Technology. Consultancy interested me because of the breadth of experience available across the public sector and private sector, such as Government, Financial Services, Energy and Resource, and Pharma and Life Sciences. Baringa was of a particular interest due to the quality of their client delivery and the training they offered to junior consultants looking to develop their capability and professional qualifications. Since joining Baringa in January 2022, I have completed external courses in Professional SCRUM Mastery (PSM), SAFe Agile and Domain Architecture Foundations, as well as the plethora of internal courses and training available at Baringa. This Technology training has provided the supplementary knowledge for me to thrive in my client work, covering a range of technology experience, from IT Operating Model and Strategy to Application Procurement Frameworks, Data Architecture and Governance and Cloud Migration Security Assurance. This experience has spanned across the Public Sector within several government departments, to a global energy trading company. Outside of client delivery, I have participated in a variety of innovative projects at Baringa, including the Metaverse pilot, in which we trialled use cases to test how best we could roll out the Metaverse to benefit out client work. I am also People Lead for Gender Balance. Through this network, we aim to address the gender imbalance and ensure our Technology business unit is diverse and high performing. A notable output of this group was rolling out a Gender Allyship Programme, in which women in Technology facilitated sessions to share scenarios typical of working in a male dominated industry, such as undermining behaviours or being the only woman in the room. We discussed how to be a good ally in these circumstances, and we have noticed further advocacy and sponsorship from our male colleagues. We also focus on recruiting talented females into our business unit, through attending university careers fairs and key women in Technology events, highlighting the opportunities that a career in Technology Consulting can bring. Finally, I am also Innovation and Technology Trends Champion for our Women in Technology, finding and creating forums to learn more about innovative Technologies, such as generative and open AI, the Metaverse, Hyperscalers and Superapps, providing opportunity for females within Technology to develop our knowledge and capabilities in areas of innovation.
