Charlene Hunter MBE | Founder & CEO, Coding Black Females

Charlene Hunter

I have been a software developer for over 10 years in a range of languages and technologies.

I studied a BSc Mathematical Sciences and an MSc Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. On completion of my degrees, I started a graduate role as a software developer in 2008 at BAE Systems in London. In this role I was able to develop a wide range of skills, including software development, testing and business analysis.

I then went on to become a contractor which enabled me to further develop my skills and embark on side projects. I have worked in a range of industries as a permanent member of staff and as a contractor and I’m currently a Technical Director at SAM Software.

In 2017, I founded Coding Black Females, a nonprofit organisation to inspire, provide opportunities, and showcase the talents of black women in tech. I’m a co-organiser of Black Devs UK, uniting Black people in software development, and the co-founder of Meet Up and Code, a community to bring developers together and code together.

I’m passionate about increasing the representation of black people in tech.
