To solve the world’s biggest problems, we need a diverse workforce able to unlock technology and scientific innovation.
Most organisations agree that closing the gender in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) gap is one of their top three priorities.
But despite positive progress, women still only comprise around a quarter of the STEM workforce in the US and UK. Additionally, satisfaction with workplace gender diversity policies is significantly lower for women. So while we’ve seen some progress, there’s still a long way to go to achieve greater balance.
Gender diversity is a cause that’s close to our hearts. For us, diversity is about more than equality and fairness. Getting it right can have a positive impact on a company’s bottom line.
Our research identifies the most impactful, practical steps companies can take to attract, recruit, retain and retain women, trans, and non-binary people in STEM.
We found that organisations which want to be at the forefront of driving change need to:
- Look beyond flexible working.
- Harness the power of retraining.
- Integrate DE&I into their business strategy.
- Take an intersectional approach.
