Susan Grimshaw

With less than impressive grades at school, I embarked on the scenic route into Technology, enrolling at our local College leading onto a place at Technical College.

A government supported initiative at a small software house allowed me to build experience and from there I moved to organisations that supported continuous learning. Whilst working, I gained my degree in Information Management and MSC in E-Business Management. The more I learned the more confident I became.

Through this route I became a Project Manager at a large defence company deploying IT solutions across their 50 UK sites. I stayed there for 25 years, travelling across the UK for 10 of those and loved it. At that time working in a male dominated environment had its challenges, but fantastic learning opportunities too. I approached my days being open, honest and constructive, helping out where I could.

Latterly, looking to spend more time at home to care for my parents, I took redundancy on my 50th birthday and some time to reset.

On returning to technology after a 9-month break, (pretty terrifying since it was 25 years since my last interview) I set up my own company with the support of Business Gateway and began helping organisations deploy IT projects in Glasgow. During that time, I continued with my education switching to IT in the Security domain, earning my CISM certificate from ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control) and to Agile, gaining my professional Scrum Master Certification.

Since then I have become a VP at Morgan Stanley in an Agile Fleet Enablement Role spanning 8 squads ~ 100 people and loving it once more.
