Anju Kirankumar | Northern Trust

Anju is a Vice President at Northern Trust and works as a senior Technical Lead providing technical leadership across various projects and applications liaising with businesses, vendors and onsite and offshore teams.

She has a total of 18 years’ experience  in Information Technology and is an inspirational leader.

Anju completed her degree in Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology in 2004 in India and moved to the UK in 2007. She has worked for a number of IT consultancies and clients including Wipro Technologies, Tata Elxsi ,Inatech UK, National Grid Gas UK, Motability Operations, Home Delivery Network, Capita IT and Page Group prior to joining Northern Trust. Anju is an Oracle certified SOA11g Implementation specialist and  has been a middleware specialist in integrating various Oracle E-Business Suite modules using SOA 11g Fusion Middleware and Java.

Anju’s work is critical to Northern Trust, and notable achievements include the expertise provided in the upgrade of an application used by Offshore Transfer Agency in 2022.It improved the performance of the application by many folds, and saved the business approximately 300 overtime-hours per month, thus improving employee morale and engagement.  Other projects include the upgrade of the IBM DataStage components of an application. Anju led the Swift Alliance Access application through the Swift Customer Security Programme for two years and has also been a Security Champion at NT for few years.

Anju is committed to self-development and has completed many courses including AWS Cloud and AWS Sage maker, MLOps etc. In 2020, Anju completed a Masters in Artificial Intelligence  and Machine Learning from Liverpool John Moore's University by successfully defending her thesis on a tool that summarises research articles from CORD-19 dataset using NLP Topic Modelling and BERTsum. In recognition of her hard work, she received an Inspiring Woman award as part of her PG Dip convocation ceremony.

In addition, Anju is a stanch supporter of future-proofing the next generation of technologists and is a mentor to many – notably, Anju was a mentor in the 2020 Hack From Home challenge, facilitated by Code First Girls, has been a mentor to students at The Hebe Foundation (supporting disadvantaged youth in London). This year alone, she has volunteered at an internal careers fair for disadvantaged students encouraging them to consider a career in technology, and also an event at the Science Museum encouraging young students to study STEM subjects.

Internally, as part of the organisation’s EMEA Tech forum 2021, Anju facilitated an introduction to AI by demonstrating AI algorithms in Google Collab. She has also provided virtual sessions on Natural language processing to engineering students in Nagpur Institute of Technology, India.

In 2022, Anju participated in Women in Asset Servicing’s Find Your Voice Bootcamp with six other women from the sector. The group participated in a half-day workshop with a public-speaking training expert and later presented a two minute presentation on a subject of their own choosing to a full audience. Following this, Anju won a trip to Monaco, participating in Funds Forum, the flagship investment management event, committed to empowering change across the industry. There Anju participated in an insightful discussion addressing diversity, inclusion and the future of the industry.
