Generation Success hold women in technology event to share inspirational stories

Generation Success recently invited 100 women in technology to share inspirational stories and swap notes about working in the male dominated industry of IT.

Generation Success (F)The event called ‘Women in Technology’ took place at Twitter’s offices in London.

Guest speakers included Rashada Harry, Fixed Infrastructure Specialist at Vodafone Global Enterprise and Founder of Your Future, Your Ambition, Jessie Link, Director of Software Engineering, Site Lead London at Twitter, Leanne Taylor, Head of Financial Services and Insurance, SAP UK and Ireland, Danielle Brookes, CEO of Fitssi, a social fitness app and Jen Thompson, Google Brand Media Sales and Strategy.

Speakers discussed their own experiences of working in the tech sector along with the challenges they have faced and overcome.

During the event James Adeleke said: “Tonight was a great night with current and future leaders coming together to advance women in technology. I was proud of our member Daniel Brooke's who's company recently received a six figure investment and who came back to share her journey with us.”

The number of women heading up IT departments has doubled to 7% in 2016, according to a joint survey by Mortimer Spinks and Computer Weekly.

The figure was found to be double that in 2015 and not far behind the 9% of male respondents who said they head up IT departments.

In addition the report found a 32% increase in women working in contracting roles within the technology industry. An increase was also reported in the number of people working in permanent technology roles within the same period.

The survey found that most women working in technology roles either work in government or not-for-profits.
