Your role

We are looking for an experienced Investments Technology Solutions Architect to join our Investments Technology team in London and Henley. Your role will be focused around supporting the needs of the business and being a key contributor to ongoing strategic projects.

You will play a meaningful role in supporting business growth and help drive the team forward. Working closely with the Engineering team in Hyderabad, you will be tasked with the creation, interpretation, and strategic direction of the Investments Technology development and capabilities.

  • Supporting projects designed to enhance the group’s capabilities. This will include helping identify, develop and design new tools to improve the team’s ability to deliver a better client experience and deliver innovative solutions to create Alpha.
  • Influencing design so that systems are developed in a loosely coupled way with a high degree of alignment towards Invesco’s future state platform.
  • Championing engineering initiatives and standard methodology by actively participating in Guilds, bringing insights and improvements into the teams to improve their day to day practices.
  • Becoming an influential member of the Solution Architecture guild and the Enterprise Architecture (EA) function so that the flow of information between EA and development teams is fluid.to

You’ll need:

  • Proven experience and knowledge of the capabilities of any major cloud service (AWS preferred), Microservices (Kubernetes, Docker), API Development and DevOps. Any relevant prior Certifications with cloud providers would be a benefit.
  • First-hand experience with proven knowledge of existing technologies covering, but not limited to, Python and/or .Net/C# as well as SQL and Javascript. Any experience with React is an added benefit.
  • Any exposure to Snowflake or any other Data Warehousing system is beneficial, but not essential.
  • An understanding of the concepts of the Agile methodologies and related methods (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, DevOps); be able to apply these as appropriate in different client contexts and solution phases.
  • Any knowledge of Mulesoft, PowerBI and Azure is a plus.

The team

  • Liaising with business partners and the wider product owner teams.

The Senior Cloud Engineer is accountable for architecting and designing comprehensive solutions that meet business requirements in support of a given project or capability. The Cloud Engineer will be accountable for partnering with key roles (e.g. Cloud Solution Architects, application teams, or other Infrastructure functions) to understand technical requirements and formulate detailed designs that align to architecture principles and standards, leverage common solutions and services, and meet the financial targets (cost and benefits) as defined by Infrastructure leadership.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will lead the development of a secure cloud platform foundation by defining standards and building Infrastructure as Code for approved cloud services following agile practices. The Cloud Engineer will build CI/CD pipelines to automate provisioning of cloud environments end to end, as well as enabling self-service capabilities for standard reference architectures. A Cloud Engineer must have broad knowledge of all different aspects of the technical landscape in order to validate complex architectures and ensure successful implementation.

Business communication and technical leadership are important traits of a successful engineer in the Invesco Technology organization. This role will evangelize and educate application teams and business partners on how to leverage the power of public cloud.
The Cloud Engineer will also champion the application of industry best practices, cloud architecture strategies and engineering standards to ensure successful cloud solutions across a wide variety of projects.

SALARY: £105k -£137k (but it’s a global role so can be based anywhere)

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design of a secure Cloud Foundation, repeatable cloud patterns, templates, and/or accelerators to enable faster adoption of cloud services.
  • Development of Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines to automate infrastructure provisioning.
  • Development of process and code required to transform traditional workloads to modern architectures.
  • Consult with application teams to develop an infrastructure design which is compliant with the architecture and standards of the Company. Ensure appropriate sizing of solutions, technology fit, and Disaster Recovery are assessed and accounted for.
  • Maintain current understanding of AWS cloud services, evaluating value of new capabilities and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Provide technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to other Technology resources and promote an open culture.
  • Lead large scale and complex cloud service development programs.
  • Consult, advise and facilitate the implementation of cloud practices and services.
  • Promote, mentor and educate the client community on Cloud Adoption, Operating Guidelines/Principles, and Cloud Services/Solutions.
  • Build a strong relationship and rapport with key stakeholders, including business partners, Application leads and other Infrastructure functions (Engineering, Operations, etc.)
  • Technical leadership and exposure across a broad scale of tools, technologies, and architecture models.
  • Ability to engage with technical members from other teams to collaborate on designs and specifications for cross-functional technical solutions.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments and trends in cloud and assigned business domain through networking, continuing education and industry/technology publications.

Functional Area Required Skills/Experience/Knowledge:

FORMAL EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field of study or equivalent years of direct experience required

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of public cloud engineering and adoption experience
  • 5+ years-experience engineering and implementing global enterprise solutions
  • In depth knowledge of AWS services such as IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, Sagemaker, Elasticsearch, Athena, Glue, Kinesis
  • Experience building Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation and/or Terraform
  • Proficient in Python
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Bamboo or Jenkins
  • Experience in migrating applications to a cloud ready architecture
  • Experience in Containerization – Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience securing cloud applications, data and infrastructure
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience with big data analytics solutions preferred
  • AWS Certified Solution Architect, or ability to pursue certification within 3 months of hire

KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITIES:

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and communicate throughout the organization with a variety of individuals at all technical levels is required.

Your Role 

As part of a Global team, you’ll be a pivotal part of our agile squads, where you will be the link between our business partners and the development team. You’ll learn about meaningful FinTech trends and help deliver key FinTech projects that help Investment and Distribution teams modernize the way they work to achieve their goals.

You will be responsible for: 

  • For the development and execution of the product vision which encompasses generating maximum business value in the shortest time with the highest return on investment.
  • Striving to identify and promote the ‘art of the possible’ innovative solutions, often breaking new ground and pushing the boundaries of what is normal and comfortable.
  • Working with cross-functional squads and various partners to define, recommend and implement solutions aligned to strategic vision and goals.
  • Working in an Agile environment and continuously reviews the business needs, refines priorities, outlines landmarks and deliverables, and finds opportunities and risks.
  • Partnering with stakeholders and customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization.
  • Translating product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria.
  • Prioritizing and maintaining the sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing the requirements of partners.
  • Leading scrum team in detailed planning (Sprint Planning). Collaborate with the scrum team to define acceptance criteria. Accept/Reject completed work throughout the sprint.
  • Negotiating business priorities and makes trade-off decisions across multiple partner concerns.
  • Balancing priorities between strategic new development against on-going production support. Determines the next steps to advance products with regards to delivering the highest business value.
  • Proactively identifying, resolving, or calling out issues, concerns, and impediments to get the project developed over several sprints.
  • Providing final sign-off for projects.
  • Visually articulating the vision and plan succinctly for reporting and awareness.

The skills and experience you’ll bring 

You will:

  • Come from a fast paced start-up / Fin Tech environment
  • Bring experience in managing products from idea to market launch
  • Show a demonstrable track record of creating product strategies
  • Have had exposure to Financial services
  • Bring experience as a Scrum Product Owner working with Agile Delivery Teams, utilizing Agile techniques

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a passion for emerging technologies, tinkering, learning and teaching others
  • Has experience of Design Thinking, UI/UX, design system
  • Understands design tools inVision, framer.io, sketch, etc..
  • Brings a basic understanding of CSS, HTML, JavaScript and other styling/programming languages
  • Has hands on experience designing mobile and desktop applications
  • Brings a balance of technical knowledge and business acumen
  • Is a SA driver, decision maker, decisive and an effective team collaborator.
  • Is organized, self-motivated, highly adaptable, and have a strong desire to adopt change.
  • Shows solid collaboration and interpersonal skill. Can engage daily with the team.

Purpose Statement

We are looking for an experienced Investments Technology Principal Architect to join our Investments Technology team in London and Henley. Your role will be focused around supporting the needs of the business as well as being a key contributor to ongoing strategic projects.

You will play a meaningful role in supporting business growth and help drive the team forward. Working closely with the Engineering team in Hyderabad, you will be tasked with the creation, interpretation, and strategic direction of the Investments Technology development and capabilities.

You will:

  • Support projects designed to enhance the groups capabilities
  • Work closely with a group of agile development teams
  • Work with the business partners to help them understand the art of the possible and form strategic vision and future roadmap
  • Influence design
  • Champion engineering initiatives and standard methodology
  • Remain technically hands on
  • Become an influential member of the Solutions Architecture guild
  • Assist management by providing support and guidance to other team members

Experience and skills you will bring:

  • Have experience and knowledge of the capabilities of AWS services, design patterns and APIs as well as first-hand experience of existing technologies covering .Net, C# and SQL.
  • Experience in using at least one scripting language such as Python.
  • Understand the concepts of the Agile methodologies and related methods (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, DevOps); be able to apply these as appropriate in different client contexts and solution phases.
  • Enjoy building positive relationships with internal partners as a collaborative communicator and teammate and have experience in working with Technology teams to implement system solutions and improvements.
