I first got into computing because I wanted to build a website for my passion project – my love of singing at 15.

At college I found a course where I studied HTML and loved it. From being a non tech person to going on to study BSc Computing at university- this gave me the fundamental understanding of technology. I went on to be a junior web developer at a small telecoms company, still not really finding my feet in tech despite studying and being in a role for a year, I had a few non development roles within tech that weren’t suited to me, but I didn’t give up.

During this time I had started to get involved within the Leeds tech community, volunteering at Code First Girls as an instructor, restarting the meetup Leeds Frontend with a friend - helping create a support network and community with other meetup organisers, putting on a free ‘get into tech’ events and networking opportunities for other juniors developers as well as all levels of developers, this is when I started my blog as a junior developer.

After the wake-up call of losing a junior developer job and still finding my feet in tech, I was over the moon to join Covea Insurance as a Junior Software Engineer. I took great interest in the leadership path and was given the opportunity to manage and mentor a team of young tech apprentices and interns at Covea after 4 months of starting my role, a role which I absolutely love. Following this, I was given the opportunity at work to study further undertaking the Aspiring Leaders college course, created to equip upcoming leaders within the county.
