Rupinder Sandhu

From a young age (in my very first computer class learning how to use paint and word) right up to today I am truly fascinated with Technology and its advances, especially Artificial Intelligence.

Technology makes life so much easier for so many people in extraordinary ways. This has been the heart of my passion in this field.

I joined BAE Systems as a junior Project Management Officer in 2015. Fast forward five years and I’m now an Account Business Manager looking after £13M+ worth of pipeline opportunities on two accounts in public and transport. It’s been quite the journey. These opportunities help clients through cutting edge approaches such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and quantum computing.

I am seen as a “go-to” person for my accounts at all levels of the business is partly a testament to my hard work, knowledge and people skills but also, I believe, to the importance of treating people as they would wish to be treated.

Prior to BAE Systems, I worked in retail alongside my studies and, after graduation, I spent a few years at a finance company where I was promoted twice. Despite this progression, I was nonetheless drawn to life at a technology firm. The fast pace. The eclectic challenges.

Looking back at my time as a student, a key highlight was organising a group trip to Guilin University of Electronic Technology in China to reduce anxiety felt by Chinese natives studying in the UK. This was an invaluable experience and gave me great exposure to how IT is deployed in different environments and the expectations of Chinese IT businesses. Promoting diversity and inclusivity remains a passion, and I am proud to combat stereotypical boundaries in and out of work by being an LGBT ally, running sessions discussing mental health and being a STEM ambassador.

From a young age (in my very first computer class learning how to use paint and word) right up to today I am truly fascinated with Technology and its advances, especially Artificial Intelligence.

Technology makes life so much easier for so many people in extraordinary ways. This has been the heart of my passion in this field.

I joined BAE Systems as a junior PMO in 2015 – now a Demand Planning and PMO Manager looking after £6M+ worth of pipeline opportunities. On my account I have managed a small team and conducted new business bid responses that have deployed 23 people across platform engineering and cyber. I have learnt that strategy and execution of win plans and pricing are vital. I take the lead on developing pricing models and review with senior stakeholders.

I was awarded an Academic Scholarship at Coventry University to study Business Information Technology. Additional qualifications include ITIL Foundation, APMG Project Planning and Control (Foundation and Practitioner). I’m currently studying the APM Project Management Qualification.

During university I organised an ambitious group trip to Guilin University of Electronic Technology in China to reduce anxiety felt by Chinese natives studying in the UK. This was an invaluable experience and gave me great exposure to how IT is trained in different environments and the expectations of Chinese IT businesses.

I passionately discuss equality and raise awareness to combat stereotypical boundaries inside and outside of work. I advocate Diversity and Inclusion by being an LGBT ally, running sessions discussing mental health and being STEM ambassador.

I’m driven to succeed and gained a great deal of knowledge and skills from 12+ years in IT, Retail and Finance. I am courteous, hardworking and reliable which has made me the ‘go-to’ person for my projects for people at all levels of the business.
