The blockchain industry has significantly grown in popularity over the last few years and it is set to continue on its upward journey, with the number of Blockchain wallet users currently recorded at 28 million.
Although blockchain is a huge phenomenon, research has highlighted that only five per cent of those who work in the blockchain and crypto industry are female. With it being International Women’s Day, Marie Tatibouet, CMO of Gate.IO provides her advice to women who are wanting to enter the blockchain and crypto world.
Advice and Benefits
As mentioned, the blockchain industry is ever evolving and keeping up with its advancements can be challenging. Ensuring that you take the time to read up around the sector is crucial and you will be thankful you took the time doing so in the long term. With the industry being mostly male dominated, females often find themselves being one in a few at networking events and conferences. This can be nerve racking for many, however remaining confident, showing people what you know and making good connections is highly regarded and you will be sure to make a good impression.
Offering females the opportunity to speak more regularly at events and offer advice and tips to others in the industry or those who are wanting to get involved would be hugely beneficial. Likewise, introducing more events specifically aimed at women, such as ‘women in tech’ and ‘global women in blockchain’ would also make females feel more welcomed.
Increasing the number of women within the blockchain and crypto sectors would be hugely valuable and rewarding to see. Creating a diverse work environment is important and can improve both experiences and performance, while offering a range of different knowledge and skills. Creating an environment which is both accepting and welcoming is crucial and with the combination of both males and females this type of environment can be achieved.
The Future
With blockchain being diverse in terms of geographical location due to it being born on the internet, there is no reason why it can’t be diverse in terms of gender. Women need to be broadcasted more regularly within the industry to reflect their achievements and give them the credit that they deserve. Additionally, the industry is transitioning into the modern era and it would be good to see a number of new opportunities arise that involve women more. In the future, it would be great to see more women get involved in the sector and contribute to the ever evolving industry.
