WeAreTechWomen is proud to announce the winners of the 2017 TechWomen50 Awards.
The winners of these awards showcases remarkable women within the technology sector covering a wide range of roles such as software engineers, Java developers, security engineers, students and college lecturers.
The winners also include individuals from leading firms such as SONY, IBM, BAE Systems, O2, Mastercard and Amazon.
Alongside the individual TechWomen50 category, we are also pleased to announce the winners of the TechWomen50 Champions, Company of the Year and Network of the Year.
Recent statistics have revealed just how much more there is to do to encourage women into the UK technology sector.
Currently, only 17 per cent of employees in the UK technology sector are women; only one in six school leavers starting a degree in computer science in 2016 was female and the total number of girls taking either ICT or computer science at GCSE fell by 12 per cent in the same year.
Since September 2017, WeAreTechWomen has been searching the UK for the best female tech talent in the country. The TechWomen50 awards are the first of their kind to focus solely on the female tech talent pipeline and to also recognise the impact of champions, companies and networks that are leading the way for the future generations of tech talent.
In its inaugural year, the awards were entered by over 500 nominations from across the UK and Northern Ireland and judged by a panel of 20 industry experts. Over 15,000 public votes of support were received for the 100 shortlisted nominees.
Speaking about the awards, Mark Kimber, Chief Information Officer, Worldpay said, “I have been working in technology for more than 20 years and I am pleased to say we have come a long way in building an inclusive working environment for women and men. I know we can do more and that’s why the WeAreTechWomen 50 awards is important.”

Kayleigh Bateman, Head of WeAreTechWomen, added: “Over the course of my career, I have seen some truly talented and inspirational women who have been recognised by a multitude of awards. However, there is not one awards series that focuses on the next generation of female talent as a whole, or those who support these individuals.”
“Our hope is that by recognising not just our shortlist of 100, but also those that champion women in tech too, we can encourage more organisations to follow their lead.”
