Why work at topper - QBE

We want everyone who joins us to enjoy the benefits of a rewarding and inspiring future within a culture that is inclusive, flexible and supportive.

We’re an international insurer and reinsurer offering a diverse portfolio of commercial, personal and speciality products, as well as risk management solutions. We employ a team of more than 11,700 people, in 27 countries around the world.

What makes QBE such a special place to work?

We asked some of our employees what makes QBE such a special place to work and one of the items that came at the top of the list is our culture. We are open, friendly, collaborative and supportive and we work together to achieve common goals and resolve problems.

Treating people with respect is part of our QBE DNA and we encourage employees to bring their ‘whole selves’ to work.

Another important element is that our management teams are supportive, approachable and flexible and they like to encourage collaboration and new ideas. They provide challenging work and encourage teams to take ownership and accountability.

Importantly, some of the ways that QBE go above and beyond to make the company such a special place to work include a comprehensive support structure of information on wellbeing, free membership to the mental health headspace app, charity days to help local communities, a work from home equipment allowance and fund matching all money raised for charity.

How do you embrace Diversity at QBE?

We are all different and at QBE we believe that we should embrace each other’s differences.

We know that diversity of thought, background and experience enables better decision making, improves the quality of our delivery and helps us to meet the needs of our customers. Our vision is to empower our people to be their best by creating an environment where everyone’s contribution and voice is valued, where we have a collective sense of purpose and a community of empowered individuals working collaboratively.

Our Inclusion and Diversity strategy is based on 3 core pillars and we are committed to driving change across each of these;

Diverse Workforce; We know diversity is good for us now and in the future. We drive leadership representations and a diverse pipeline of talent.

Inclusive Workplace; We fundamentally believe everyone should be included. We build inclusive capabilities, listen to our people and support flexibility and wellbeing.

Connected Marketplace; We are a positive influence for societal change. We encourage a diverse supply chain, and endeavour to support and enhance equitable access for our diverse customer base.

Do you have an internal women’s network at QBE?

We’re very proud of our ‘Women in Tech’ network who meet regularly to connect, share, inspire and support women working within QBE’s EO Change and Technology Service teams. We discuss topics of interest, changes we’d like to action to support our community of women and collaborate to promote the role of women within QBE.

We’re not just a ‘talking shop’, we have engaged in several initiatives within QBE to help make the lives of women easier.

Our network is split into a working group focusing on exploring the art of the possible, what others in the industry are doing and implementing some powerful changes. We also have the advocate group where the working group present ideas for feedback and promotion.

What do you look for in a potential candidate?

We recognise that there’s no one size fits all and we seek out people with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds, experience, perspectives and ambition. We create opportunities for our people to achieve their full potential by empowering you to do meaningful work from day one. We are looking for people who will confidently challenge the norm and constantly strive to improve and build something better.

What benefits or reward programmes do you provide for employees?

At QBE, we want our people to feel rewarded and inspired to perform at their best. That’s why we have created At My Best. It’s our connection, our way of showing we have your back.

QBE is committed to improving gender equality and we are taking a range of measures to recruit, develop and retain more female candidates, while making sure they are getting the opportunities they deserve.

We have a target of achieving at least 40% women in leadership by the end of 2025.
